Top speed- has my limiter been removed?
So I just picked up my new to me 2003 M3 on Friday. There was some nice weather over the weekend, and the back way to work is an un-restriced autobahn, so...
I've always read that these cars have a speed-limiter that cuts in at 250 kph, or 155 mph... But I can't find mine yet. I saw 275 kph indicated (170 mph), and it was still pulling. I can understand it being a little off, but 15 mph? And then, screwing around with the car's onboard computer, I found a strange menu that let you set the top speed. And it was set at 299 kph...? Did the PO do a mod? I bought it from a BMW dealer... Thoughts? |

If you are currently living in Germany which to me it seems like it. The german governement does not restrict their cars. In order for BMW and Porsche and Mercedes to import to the US all of their cars are electronically limited to 155. The are required to sell them like this. It is very easy to chip the car once purschased to gain the origianl specs. Man I wish I lived in Germany.
Haben sie einen netten tag!
