defroster, heater, a/c, and recirc don't work

Got in the car (1994 325is) today after work and noticed the heater wasn't working. Hmmm...some more tinkering resulted in me figuring out the a/c, recirc, and defrost buttons don't work.

When I got home I started experimenting. I noticed that the features all work when the car is in the on position but the motor is not running. I thought for sure it was the climate control module; swapped it with a spare but it didn't help.

So now I'm stumped....anyone ever heard of this problem? BMW sure did make this system a little over complicated...
