Strange Wire behind Instrument Cluster
I have posted this on several Bimmer websites and no one has taken the plunge. I pulled my IC to resolder some connections and found a strange wire (blue/yellow) swinging in the breeze. This wire has a rubber covered connection end and with a single pole and a vacant hole insdide the rubber cover. Appears as if the wire goes to one of three ports on back of the green box behind the speedometer cover. I am picking the middle port as the pole in that port is shiny (as if it has been used or covered), but there are two other ports (they line up vertically). I have driven the car with the wire hanging and it runs fine, my question is, What does this wire do?

Leave well enough alone!
There are a lot of extra wires up behind there! Only last week i was up under my steering column reworking my stereo wiring and a Red/Green wire fell down from where it had happily been taped to the main loom. So I checked it out, found it to be hot (live 12V) at all times. it is not used in my 318i but the loom is universal for all 3 series so mabey the red wire i have spare is used in yours? and my little 318 is taking advantage of the blue wire that is confusing you! If it ain't broke don't fix it! Tape it back up out of the way and carry on as if you had never seen it! Luke.

Strange Wire
Just had a response from a Master Tech and the wire is the speed sensor for the Cruise Control. The preferred port is the top one but they all feed the same input spot so she is hooked up and running fine. You are correct about numerous loose wires up and under the dash, leve well enough alone.
