Exclamation e30 emissions failure!

hey everyone, i am the proud owner of a 1991 1.8 m40 e30 touring. the car has just failed its mot test on hi hydrocarbon emissions! if anybody could offer any sort of advice on what to check out in order to try and reduce the emissions i'd be more than grateful? thanks in advance.

Oxygen sensor is often the culprit.

HI check for air leaks , the breather pipe on the R/cover, the throttle housing gasket, the manifold gasket, it creep's out of the bottom of the manifold to head, get a good torch and check.
