Rest causing battery to die

Longtime reader, first time post.

I have a 98 528 and am told by the mechanic that the draw to drain the battery is coming from the rest (heater) switch cycling on? My knowledge according to the manual is that this cycles when the outside temp drops to 59 degrees. I have changed out two batteries as a result. He disco'd the switch for few days and we just replugged it yesterday. We will wait and see.

MY question is has anyone else experienced this or do you have any suggestions. Thank you for your time.

My boss has a '01 or '02 540i and the same thing has happened numerous times. His climate control would stay on and drained the batteries. Used to have to help him jump it all the time.

Ended up getting a new resistors and works great for the past 4 to 5 months.
