timing belt replacement
Hello,
I have a 1988 325i convertible. I read the article about belt replacement. Does it also apply to the timing belt? In other words, is it possible to replace the timing belt without removing the radiator and fan? Thanks. |

Doug,
No, good news here. You will most likely have to remove the radiator and a whole bunch of other stuff to get to the timing belt. Go to this previous link for instructions: http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/techarticles/JF-Tech/BMW_E30_3_Series_Timing_belt_change.htm |

radiator it's ver easy, 2 x 10mm screws and release hoses.
Fan removal, purchase a 32mm wrench from local bicycle shop, it's about $ 14. |

the fan will definitely need to be removed and they say you can leave radiator in, but I am sure it is much easier with it removed. i just recently changed mine (325) and did it over several weeks. i bought the bently manual and used input from this site. everthing went very well. I would suggest removing the hood too and taking digital photos as you go so you can refer back when reassembling. i replaced cam seal, tensioner, all belts including timing belt, and water pump. go for it......
