A/C Problems. Please read. Hey WAYNE!!!

Hi.
I am having a bit of trouble, When I push my A/C Snowflake switch the green led comes on but the Compressor clutch never engages. The Elec fan does not turn on either. I have been doing a bit of research but I have not found much. I believe that It can possibly be the High/Low pressure cutout switch. But Does anyone have some things to troubleshoot. And even better yet, some elec values to test?

Thanks....

Have you checked the actual pressures in the system? I'm not too familiar with AC systems, but I know that some compressors won't turn on if there's low fluid inside...

May also be related to temperature senders in the cabin / outside - I know that's a common problem on my 5-series...

E36 A/C malfunction

I had the same problem with my 93 325i, took it to the local BMW shop and they said that when the freon level gets too low, it trips a relay that shuts off the compressor ( safety feature, they said)
So, they recharged the A/C. The fix lasted about 12 hours - next day no cold air from a/c. They had also put some fluorescent dye in it when they recharged it. So the second time I took it back, they checked it and said that dye had leaked out all over the top of the auto trans., indicating a failed evaporator. They want $1400 to replace it, but I am going to find a less costly fix, because I really love this, my first BMW. I now have located all the parts to fix it, but I would really appreciate a DIY article on replacing the evaporator, if anyone knows of one. Or even an article about getting deep into the stuff behind the dashboard. This forum has saved me a lot of money - I'm very grateful for this help. Tim

Cool,
I may just hit it with a can on R134+oil and see if the compressor turns on, if so ill have it evacuated, and a leak check done.
