Major Electrical Short
I have a 1990 325iC. After driving home in heavy rain, and with the interior fans blowing on high to defog the windshield, something seemed to snap and the blower started making a loud sound as if the fan blades were hitting something. But that's the minor problem (blower no longer working, as it hadn't worked on settings 1 2 or 3, so I had to have it on level 4 to get any air in the past).
The real problem now is that when I turn the ignition off, and take the key out, several components stay turned on and drain the battery. E.g. the radio, the door open alarm, the check instrument panel (above rearview mirror), I can't think of all of them at this moment. I checked all the fuses, and replaced the 5 corresponding to all the components that stay on, but it didn't cure the problem. So now when I turn off the ignition, I have to pull out 5 fuses to make sure the battery doesn't drain. I guess it's a short somewhere in the electrical system but I'm quite overwhelmed at where to start looking? Did something snap inside around the fan blower? Thanks if anyone has had this problem and can help. |
