Odd light under flasher switch on console
My '93 has a strange very small light bulb under the hazzard flasher switch. Can anyone tell me what this is for and where to find a replacement bulb?
(The console has the cupholder and coinbox options.) |
Do you mean beneath the switch, as in, it illuminates the hazard symbol? I think BMW intends for you to replace the entire switch but you might be able to find a replacement bulb at an autoparts store or on the web.
Or do you mean the bulb is beneath as in next to the hazard switch? If that is the case I would guess it is an LED for an aftermarket alarm system. |
It is behind the switch just lying there. I'm wondering if perhaps it was for the (not installed in this car) ashtray - or is illumination for the automatic selector that has migrated to the wrong place.

There is a light in the ashtray so that could be it, but my ashtray is further back.

Those console components can be moved around. I've got my ashtray all the way to the front of the console (closest to the hazzard), but I've seen them all the way back. The ashtray light should have a black collar around it that would fit into the light hole on the bottom of the ashtray.
I'd just snap the console components out (ashtray, coinbox, cup holders, ect.), & see if the light fits into the bottom of your ashtray. Is your car a 5 speed? It might have been for an illuminated shift knob, but I kinda tend to doubt it. |
Here is a photo of the light (minus bulb) the 4-way flasher has been pulled out and you are looking into the hole left by same.
The light appears to go on with the dash lights. Anyone who knows what this is and the bulp part that it uses - thanks! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1151542628.jpg |
