Computer(DME) Differences

Hello Everyone I just wanted to know what is the difference between the Bosch Motronic M1.1 and the Bosch Motronic M1.3 I have the 1.3 in my 325 i but the computer is acting up when i drive it for a long time it starts to surge and idle crazy. I hooked up the Bosch Motronic M1.1 and i think it made my idle high but wasn't sure if it was the man reason is because of the computer. Can anyone explain the difference thanks:confused:

There is a description of the differences throughout the Bentley manual on E30s.

No problem man

the L-jetronic should be pre-84, or per-se pre-E30 , the Mototronic 1 (like the 84 325e) is a computer that controls the functions of the fuel system and makes it easy to use a connectivity tester to check a fuel injection component

The 1.1, considered nicer by the factory makes microcomputer logs of engine performance and driver characteristics and then changes the cars operation; things like changing shift points in automatics for old ladies versus teen boys, and changing fuel flow at certain speeds, or engine speed at certain points like idle and various rpm.

The 1.1 makes the fuel system of the bmw more reliable and better serving to a stock engine. However the 1.1's are a nightmare for chips or performance upgrades. With items like airflow the car runs poorly until the baselines and logs are changed. With items like chips, it turns into New Orleans, two police forces that hate each other, destroying the city.

The Bentley manual is THE thing you abs. need for this car (30 bucks at Amazon)

as a side note, the connectors for the computers are structually different. So interchaning them would mean a few hours of nearly impossible electric work.

Happy Motoring
