manual tranny oil change
Hey guys,
I want to change the oil in the gearbox, but am having a bit of trouble locating the fill/check plug. Is it on the passenger or driver side? My tranny has no label on it (that I can see, maybe it's been ripped off after 19 years). The car is an 87 325, 2.7L. My guess is a Getrag 260 tranny. Also, any advice on the type of oil to refill with? Any help is appreciated. Thanks! |

Don't remember exactly which side the fill plug is but ... you might need some leverage to get it off [I believe they are tapered].
I use redlines products [MTL - manual transmission lube] and gear oil [front and rear differential] transfer case too. Make sure you can remove ALL fill plugs before taking the drain plugs out. Will save yourself a headache of draining fluid only to find you can't remove fill plug to fill. Jason |

It is on the drivers side about 3/4 up the height of the transmission. I drained and filled mine using jack stands but a lift would make it easier. You will need a pump to get the fluid into the trans. I used a hand a finger pump I got from Pep Boys.
