water pump removal

Hi everyone this is my first time on this forum, anyway can anyone tell me if there is a better way of removing a e36 318i waterpump. The reason being is to remove the pump you have to insert two m6 bolts in holes provided to gradually pull the pump out of the engine block. unfortunately the pump body brakes or the bolts shear off. Is there a special puller for this or do you have to make your own. The only way around this proplem i have found so-far is bash the thing off.

regard Karwise.

Question water pump removal

What's up Karwise? Ironically, I'm in the same boat as you right now. I'm tryimg to remove the water pump from my '92 325i M50 engine, and that sucker ain't moving. I've remove the necessary nuts, and it's not moving, yo. I hit it with the rubber mallet, and still no luck. It almost feels like it's welded to the block. man. If I get, I'll let you know. Later.

I tapped mine everywhere I could with a rubber mallet and then wiggled out. I had to be persistant but it worked.

Hi thank's for the replies, the only way i could get the pump off was by using a brake calliper windback tool on one side and levering with a long bar on the other and it shot out

Thanx karwise

Some people use lock-tite or someother adhesive when they install the waterpump; might be why some have trouble.
