Can a 95 318is be flat towed?

Inquiring if a 95 318is, 5 speed can be flat towed behind the RV over extended distances . Not interested in a tow dolly or car carrier.

I can't think one reason not to tow a 5 speed. I have pulled mine, only because it would not go on its own.

I want to pull it behind our RV since I can't tow my 335 or the wife's Z4.

As far as I know, if it is a five speed, manual transmission, two wheel drive, ( the only ones I have ever had for 35 years) put it in neutral, release the brake.

You should be able to push it by yourself on flat ground. I do it all the time.

They roll good. Never had an RV, only boats, since they don't float they stay home.

Wheels pushing diffy -v- engine pushing diffy. One comes through the driveshaft, the other comes through the half shaft...pushes on opposite sides of the gear teeth...

What difference does that make?

Diffs can handle engine load on drive side and brake or coast load on coast side.

Any more thoughts on this guys, I didn't think it made any difference on an LSD diff or open diff? We put our race car on a two wheel dolly and pull it with no obvious problems?

If it made a difference, you could not push in the clutch and coast. I don't know alot, but I do have 30 plus years of experience with BMW's, and all with manual transmissions.

Based on what I know to be true, you can pull the car to the moon.

You may need to replace the tires on the way back.

It is a BMW, not a VW, A 3 series BMW's running gear is as basic as an AMC Rambler with CV joints and disc brakes.

Maybe not as tough as the Rambler, no doubt not worth as much as the rambler today.

I appologise for my prior reply, I was being coy, and obtuse, I have pulled them behind an RV, not to the moon, only half way.

Pull the thing 10,000 miles, it is a German Ford Pinto.

Then drive it to work on Monday. It won't know it went anywhere, but work.
