Vibration

Need some assistance in correcting a vibration in rear of a 1987 325 base model E30. I bought this old car for running around town and have become obsessed with making it ride and drive like a BMW. I sold automobiles for 27 years and the last six years were BMW, so I have become a BMW enthusiast. I am experiencing a vibration from the rear of the E30, (or so it seems) and have replaced the tires, wheels and repeated balancing several times. It sounds like the tires are slapping the highway. I have replaced shocks, front and rear, and still have vibration. I have had a Tech drive and take a look with no diagnosis. Could this problem be from trailing arm bushings? CV joints or drive shaft? I want this E30 to be smooth like BMWs are noted. I would greatly appreciate some suggestions to take care of this vibration. Thanks in advance for your help.

Lost as a ball in high weeds.

BMW Roundel Highway speed vibration

I haven't replaced the guibo yet. Is that something would cause vibration in the rear? At low speeds when I let up on gas abruptly, their is a clunk, and when I accelerate there is another clunk. U-joints? CV joints? Or both? The vibration or shaking is at highway speeds..............60 and above. Do I need to replace drive shaft, rear axles and guibo? This E30 has beyond 200K miles. It sounds like tires are slapping the road at highway speeds.

I think the guibo causes more of a clicking sound. But--guibos are a regular maintenance item on these cars and you shouldn't think about replacing driveshafts and u-joints without doing the guibo first.

What about the center bearing? My 325 clunks in first gear on and off the gas. I think it's my driveshaft unfortunately kind of expensive...

I was going to suggest the prop shaft centre bearing......is the guibo that you guys are reffering too, the rubber joint between the transmission and the front propshaft flange??? If so, yes, check that.....

Diff mounts and trans mounts are worth a check too, for the clunking on take up and lift off of the accelerator?
