Project 32: Installing a Performance Chip

This is calling your attention to what appears to be a minor oversight of which you are probably already aware. For the sake of thoroughness, however, I will call it to your attention anyway.
Project 32 implies that the Motronic Digital Motor Electronics system is used on all BMW models between 1984 and 2000, and Project 28 directly states that the Motronic system is used on all BMW models for these years. This overlooks the 1984-1985 BMW 318i which uses the L- Jetronic Electronic Control Unit , as do the 1984-1988 BMW 316i, and the M10-powered 320i. I would suspect that only the 318i was marketed to any extent in the US. As I own a 1984 318i, however, I am very much aware that it does not have a Motronic Digital Motor Electronics system. To my understanding, it is not possible to develop a performance chip for the L-Jetronic system as it is analog, rather than digital. If a performance chip does exist for the M10 engine using the L-Jetronic system, however, I would much appreciate getting the name and URL of a supplier. Thanks. Digby |
