Can the motor blower be replaced without removing the intake manifold?

I'm pretty sure that you need to remove the dash for this one...

Since my question about removing the manifold, I have found out you do have to remove the upper half of the intake manifold for the motor and fans to fit into the blower case.
When the old fans (plastic) disintegrated, it was easy for the motor to fit through the opening under the hood. With the replacement motor and new fans attached, they wouldnt fit back through the opening, the upper part of the intake manifold was in the way. The upper half of the manifold is an easy job to remove, But be very careful with the small coolant hoses that are hooked to the back of the throttle body. Bentley book says to replace the intake manifold gasket, but mine was in good shape and has not been a problem.
