FYI intermittent missing at idle
 

After searching and searching for the reason my '90 325i was intermittently missing at idle, I finally found the problem.

Initial visual inspection of the distributor cap concluded it was all-right, however, after removing the 3 screws that hold it in place, the cap came off in 2 pieces!! It had cracked almost exactly in half, top to bottom.

Hope this helps someone in the future!
