1995 325i Head Unit Replacement
I'm attempting to change out my oem head unit with a Kenwood MP2035 that I purchased through Crutchfield. I also received a wiring harness that fits the BMW plug. I can get power to the Kenwood but no sound. Any ideas? Should I try to wire around the amp? From what I can tell I only have 6 speakers and the tech help at Crutchfield thought I should be able to connect everything using the BMW wiring harness.

Better place to pose this question. Do a search, it has likely been answered many times already:

You very likely have 10 speakers in your E36 (3 in front, 2 in back on each side). Wiring around the BMW amp will require crossovers to work with the existing speakers.
I was very pleased with the 6x9 JBL 2-ways that I used in back instead of the 1" + 4" drivers, but my '93 is wired differently from later years, making that switch easy electrically. I was able to wire around the amp for them, but haven't done that to the front drivers (yet). Replacing the stock head unit significantly improved my car stereo sound. I had a local stereo shop do the conversion, and thought they just used the typical harness adapter. Hope yours works out and as well. CHoffa's suggestion will likely get your answer.

Thanks for the info. I posted here because of the info I found on under the 101 projects. There were lots of helpful pictures. Problem is I wired the head unit the way I thought, and it agreed with the pics but I get no sound. I appreciate the link. Hopefully, I can find some good info there.
