thermo-time switch

After numerious part replacement including the inline fuel pump, it was making a loud noise. I am still face with my 1984 318i not wanting to rev up beyond 3k. However this afternoon was warm in southern maryland so it decided to rev up like normal. After washing the car it was back to its old problem.

While I was warming it up, I was playing around with three sensor or sender as the manual calls them I pulled the plug off on the one further forward it was identified as the "thermo-Time Switch" in my Bentley manual pages 29 Fig. 4-44. The car died after doing that. After the wash and warmed it up abit for a test drive it was doing the same thing then I was able to rev it up like normal.

So, can someone educate me on the what that sender does or direct me on how to test it for functionality if it needs to be replace. Have not check how available they are or how much.

Ben
