Tach, temp gauge not working.

I have a 1987 325e and my tack and temp gauges are not working at all. But my speedo and fuel gauge is working. Where should I start looking. Fuses are ok.

Thanks
Jeff

Someone had this identical problem last month.

Gages

Don't know how much help it's gonna be though.

I had that problem three months ago. The problem was a broken electrical cable that goes very close to the shifter. The cable was in the way of the shifter and was cut in half. That is one possibility. I own a 1986 325es bmw. Today I fixed the sunroof!

Hello,

I have a 85 325e, and have had similar problems in the past. On both occasions I removed the instrument cluster, disassembled it, and re-flowed the cold solder joints. These solder joints will fail due to continuous heating and cooling. You can identify a cold joint by it's color. A proper joint should be nice and shiny with no pitting. A cold joint will be a dull gray color. You should also inspect closely for cracked solder joints. This corrected my malfunctioning speedo/tach when I first purchased the car, and my inop temp gauge less than a year ago.
