'92 318i Cabriolet daytime running lights

Having just, cracked the top for the upcoming summer on our 318, I noticed that when I start the car all the lights come on,Head,Tail,Side markers.Being a canadian model, Daytime Running lights on all cars were standard since 1990.That does not however mean all lights.The main light switch is off, yet I can dim/brighten the dash lights. Does anyone know if there is a Daytime running lights module/switch on this model that may be faulty? Is it incorporated into the main Light switch.Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.
