1987 325is very early timing belt replacement

Brand new timing belt/tensioner and water pump with all of about 20 miles on them. The water pump is making noise and leaking coolant. I'm going to replace that.

I know the recommendation is to always replace the timing belt and tensioner any time they are removed. Do I REALLY have to do that with 20 miles on them??? They're still nearly brand new!

Thanks!

You don't have to remove the timing belt to replace the water pump.

doh! Replace water pump with timing belt has imprinted on my brain and so has the reverse - didn't actually even think about it. Thanks!
