I wonder if it is doable without any speciall tools. How about tie rod end?

Thanks.

Wink

there are special tools to press the ball joint out and in. from what i've seen they cost around $160US and ball joints each for $25US. a dealer at least will take $200-$300 for the job and parts. i think it is quite reasonable to purchase a set of new control arms with new outer/inner ball joints and at the same time you change bushings too. that's what i am going to do!

It is more feasible to purchase the control arms with ball joints already in them. Whatever you save purchasing them separately you will wind up paying some machine shop to press the old ball joints out and to press the new ones in place.

I just did a whole M3 susp job on mine. Its easier to get the new control arms with the all the joints already installed then to piece it all together. The only thing you will need to press in and out is the control arm bushings if you are replacing them.
