318is (1997) Fuel Pump Fuse Problem

My 318is drives perfectly well around town. However after driving on the freeway at constant speed, e.g. 70mph, for approximately 20mins the fuel pump fuse goes. Once replaced, the car starts and I am able to continue for a few miles before it goes again.

I have looked at the wiring (see photo), and there was bit of fraying. I've secured it with insulating tape but the problem is continuing.

Does anybody have any ideas? I am thinking that a new fuel pump may solve the problem but would like some advice.
