BMW Roundel 87 325 SI board

besides the service lights what else does the board do ?power fuel gage & MPG indicator? any effect on memory to ecu ?do i really need it working ?

From what I understand, the SI board has an effect on most of the gauges, including the tachometer, mpg gauge, fuel gauge, temp gauge, and service lights. I've read several posts saying that it is fairly important to have working. Not sure about the ECU memory, but I believe it does have the ability to trigger ECU trouble codes.
