BMW Roundel Poor Gas Mileage / '87 325i

Hey All:
Just recently purchased a '87 325i conv. She's got about 155,000 on her.
Recently replaced the fuel filter, air filter and plugs. Plugs were in good shape,
no carbon build up etc. The PO had the oxygen sensor replaced. So I can't
figure out why she slurps gas like my 6 yr son drinks Coke when he gets the
chance. When replacing the fuel filter, I noticed that the PO had bottomed out
or hit the 2 exhaust pipes after the cat. converter, I mean really smashed them
flat good. Good the problem be that the engine can't breath as freely as she wants - would replacing that section of exhaust pipe help? Any thoughts or
suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you know what kind of mileage you are getting? My 88 325 with a 5 speed gets around 23-25 mpg with a 50/50 mix of driving.

I would check to make sure your temp sensors are functioning with in the normal range.

i mean if they are really as flat as you say then yes the engine would have to work harder and use more gas to push out the exaust gas they it would normally do with less gas
