Car wont start I have searched
I have been doing research for a couple of weeks. First I ran into the problem my check engine light came on. I had it tested and found secondary air pump needed to be replaced. Car was not starting after sitting for about 8 or more hours. so this I thought would help. Well it did for about a week now I can not even start the car. I have checked the fuel pump and it still makes the buzzing sound as I do not know much I have read that this would mean it is working.
the 3 things needed are spark which new plugs went in 3 weeks ago. fuel half a tank and here buzzing and I believe it is compression. I am lloking for a link to a guide that has how to check each of these and approx. how much each tool will cost. possible problems form there also thanks alot Jeff |

A compression tester is about $30. It won't hurt to test it but I doubt that is your problem.
Could be a bunch of things. Crank sensor, fuel filter a many more depending on what car you have...

I have a 1997 328 is the problem has progressed into periodic starting I can not get it out of the drive way. Some days it starts and stays started long enough to get you door shut and foot on the gas then it chokes out. I do not know what to do now.
recently I had the secondary air pump replaced, and spark pugs changed. If the same plugs are not used would that affect this I had ngk 4 prongs on the top and the mechanic put in bosch 2 prong on top. (sorry if the use of the word prong is wrong I do not know what the proper name is) could this affect my starting? please let me know. thanks |

As long as the plugs are for your car it doesn't matter how many electrodes (prongs) they have. As far as the starting problem, easiest first, sensors, fuel filter, etc. Also, here in Denver you can get people to come out and hook up to the OBD-II and that will tell you what is wrong or if you have the older style computer the car can give you the codes. Then you just look them up.
