Transmission rebuild or not
I just spent 2900.00 to rebuild my transmission my 97 328is would not shift from 2nd to 3rd had it torn down was told it needed a complete rebuild got the car back and within 25km it went into limp mode well thats what they say at the shop anyway yes right back the next day when I walked in mechanic said to boss look familiar nodding over at me I got a very bad felling. So now they took it to a elect shop came back with 9 codes only 1 Ive ever had saying you don't get the codes under the dash link they used the BMW link under the hood, don't both have to work the same and provide the same information by law? did they do a rebuild when it was not needed.

I am always very leary about recommending that people have transmission overhauls. 9 out of 10 times it can be fixed with an oil change or the addition of a conditioner that cleans the sensors, clutches and bands.
9 out of 10 of the 1 in 10 it is simple sensor that can be replaced without even taking the transmission out of the car. My 88 325ic has never had the transmission or engine out. The trans had the governor replaced about 5 years ago. Cost something like $35 including the gasket, plus the oil. The other 1% of the time the clutches or bands are worn and will need changing. But that should be somewhere after 300,000 miles or so
