Question Persistent Camshaft Sensor Error

Hello.

I have a 98 323is. Just spent a week replacing the camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, thermostat, belts... The car is running fine, but the dreaded Check Engine light is coming on and my Peake says the (new) camshaft sensor is bad.

What now? I reused the rubber doughnut gasket from the old sensor on the new...could a leaking gasket cause problems? If it is the wiring past the sensor plug (between the sensor female and the computer), is that fixable short of tearing the car into pieces? Is there a magic unpublished BMW-fix?

Thanks.
