a/c not working at idle,no cold air?

If the problem is mostly at idle, then the most likely culprit is air flow through the condenser in front of your radiator. Check to make sure that the fan is working.

Also look at the sight glass on top of the reciever. See if it is clear at idle.
By the way, what kind of car are we talking about?
