Front Suspension Help

I have a 84 318i and evidently I have the "touring" suspension. I bought a pair of new KYB GR-2 for a great deal online. Nothing in the ad suggested which size but fits all e-30 from 84 - 91. Come to find out after I have the front end torn off the the car on blocks on the street, the KYBs are too big for the strut housing. After a little research I find there are two sizes, 45mm and 51mm. So I bought a new pair of BOGEs 45mm struts for $50 more than the KYBs and after a week and a half they arrive. What a POS! I can't believe Boge slels these things they suck! But what can I do I have to put them in my car and get it moving.

Then I start thinking that I could by a pair of 51mm strut housings and put my brand new KYBs in them and sell the 45mm ones. There are a couple of guys parting out 325s in my area and I may be able to score a pair for cheap.

My questions are:

1. Will the 51 mm strut assembly for any E-30 fit my 84 318i? Are the springs the same for either size?

2. What would a pair of 45mm complete struts with new inserts be worth on ebay?

Thanks. Duano
