BMW Roundel Electric Door Lock - Wont Engage

i got a 1985 325e 2 weeks ago - works great except for a few things - one of them is the drivers door lock.
it will lock unlock electrically from passenger or trunk and the cylinder moves-but wont engage with when cylinder turns.
after looking at a non electric lock off of a bmw at a pic n pull - i note that there is an l shaped hook on the cylinder that slides into a fork coming off the the big mechanism that latches door to frame.

i cannot see well up into my cars area where these components meet due to awkward angle and a electric device on cylinder , but by feeling around it seems that the l shaped hook is still on the cylinder. i am hoping i can jus maybe bend the fork a little so the hook will get back in.

can i service this by just removing the cylider or do i have t loosen those 3 bolts on the door end and move that big door latch also

any pics of how this electric lock system is put together appreciated
