BMW 525 camshaft postion sensor fails
Hi all:
my name is Kevin T. I took my 2001 BMW 525 for inspection and the mechanic told me my car failed because camshaft position sensor intermittent fails...As i understand, if the camshaft position sensor fails, one can't drive that car too long ..but i drive my car every day, high way and city road and i have no problem at all. Does any body have idea what is going on with my car. Your help is greatly appreciated. Kevin T |

Did your mechanic have a basis? Did he read any diagnostic codes telling him about the sensor? Is your "check engine" light on?

So did he fail you because your emissions was out of spec? I'm wondering why an inspection station is concerned with the state of tuning of your engine unless the condition is causing excessive emmissions. Where I live I'm not sure they even care if your engine runs so long as your brakes, lights, ball joints and wheel bearings are in good shape. Will he also fail you if your heated seats don't work?

If the computer has stored a code that agrees with the technician, and the wire and plug are in good shape, you can get that sensor on line for about $75 for Bosch or $100 for a Hella.
