Musty smell is due to mildew in the A/C evaporator rather than the filter, but you can get the stuff to kill the mildew into the evaporator more effectively if you do it while the filter is out. I wrote up instructions for resolving both problems here:
http://frontiernet.net/~Papi/Cabin_Filter.htm Others report successfully changing the filter via the 'laproscopic surgery' method without removing the glove box. It is tough enough with the glove box out, so I would not attempt it with the glove box in. Been years since I was into the wipers. Hopefully it is an electrical supply problem because I think you have to remove the air cowl from the firewall to get to them. That is a PITA. I was standing straddle the engine jerking on it and when it finally came loose I nearly did a back flip over the radiator. If memory serves, I think that perhaps the plastic cover over the base of the windshield also has to come out if you need to remove the wiper assembly. If that has been baking in the California sun for a decade or more, it will come off in pieces and have to be replaced (not too expensive). I suggest that you get a Bentley manual before trying to diagnose the wiper problem. If you pull the air cowl off, replace your heater hoses while you are in there. You will thank yourself later. |
