injector seal?

Has anyone done this? My car has been falling on its face since I bought it yesterday. I checked for vacuum leaks and discovered that its leaking at the injector seal on #2 and #3. this explains it totally cutting out and sputtering around 3000 rpm consistently and sometimes at other ranges of RPM.

If you have done this, let me know the easiest way. I imagine you pull the injector out to gain access, remove injector from the line with a 12mm and 14mm wrench... then cut the old seal off? or pull it off? will it come off easy?

So, does the new seals slide on with a little oil?

Whats the best way to clean injectors while they are off? soak in carb cleaner? seafoam?
There is some built up gunk on them, im sure the spray pattern is not the best either but it wont squirt with the injector hanging out so i can see while I turn the car over.

I beg for your knowledge, I would like to get this car back on the road. My other E21 will benefit from this too. I plan to replace its seals after I try it out on this car.

Thanks,

MT

The easiest way to remove the fuel injector o-rings is to to slice them with a blade or knife. Putting some oil on the new ones should ease the installation process. Be sure to do all of them at the same time.

For about $10 to $15 per piece, I would let a service shop ultrasonically clean and test them. This procedure typically includes new o-rings.

no o-rings. just the seals that look like this.

So, here is the problem. the old ones are super hard. Like plastic. Im assuming that the new ones will be soft rubber and slide on easily.

Getting the old ones off might be tough. Just asking if anyone knows any tricks.

Thanks,

Morgan

A leaking injector seal may cause a lumpy idle, but would not cause a car to 'fall on its face'.

Since you have identified a leak, best to correct that before diagnosing further.

If I were pulling out injectors of unknown condition, if I could do without the car for a few days, I would definitely send them to Cruzin Performance or Witchhunter or somewhere to be cleaned and tested for flow and pattern, That way you will be starting with known good clean injectors.

I wonder what would cause it to completely fall on its face then? the injectors are in bad shape. Im searching for a local place to do my injectors. The injector seals is the only leak I can find. all vacuum lines are not responding to the ether test (starter fluid) and the valves are adjusted right based on compression test. timing is very close, advanced a little.
Im at a loss here, I cant figure it out. the fuel tank leaks pretty good when totally full. maybe its not getting the pressure it needs. Would the intank pump fail?I have not seen one fail but i wont rule it out. I have no way of testing fuel pressure. The external pump looks brand new, and is pumping away. Im getting good fuel on the other side of the filter and at the fuel distributor.

So, Ill test the injectors and have them cleaned, ill replace the injector seals and clean and reattach the breather hoses and vacuum lines. Ill clean the intake best I can. readjust timing once i get it running. maybe readjust the valves.

Ill keep my fingers crossed. this is a beautiful car. I just want it to run right.
