Filty P\S Fluid, 1993 318i
I can find no reference to changing the P/S fluid, only add and check the fluid. My fluid looks black and smells burnt like overused motor oil. Can anyone make a suggestion on how to clean out this mess and the best fluid to use (from Pelican of course). Thanks in advance. John

You can take off the P/S hoses "banjo" connectors to drain the P/S fluid. When all drained, you can button up and refill the reservoir. This will not flush the system, but at least will put fresh P/S fluid in there. If you repeat the same procedure, this should give you a fairly clean system.

On a 15 year old car, I would suspect that I might have hoses that were disintegrating if my fluid looked black. If your hoses are leaking, (or even if they are not leaking yet) it may be time to replace them.
I have dark fluid in a '97 that I know needs new hoses. Just waiting for better weather and a little cash to do it. |
