No Heat Cold Feet

No Heat
We have a 1998 316i 4Dr Auto. Standard factory model. Our heater (hot air only) doesn't work. I've checked the inlet hoses to the heater by the firewall & the hoses were hot. Is there a sensor or something else inside the car that I could check please. Blower & cold work fine. Will be flushing system & replacing thermostat in a couple of days. Appreciate anyone's help for this. Cheers

if you follow those hoses to the firewall you will find the valves that open or close to regulate heated coolant into the heater core. these valves can stick closed or partially open, not allowing heated coolant into the heater core. replacement of the valves is easy. after the valves the next suspect is the heater core, it could be plugged. replacing the heater core is big project and requires removal of the dash.

Thanks wild I was going to do that in the morning - I have had my own mechanical business - but gave up after illness. However I've only replaced an engine & done a warrant of fitness test on a BMW, early model though. Again many thanks for your reply
