You need a new lock cylinder. In theory, you can remove the lock from the housing with just a thick paper clip or a small drill bit, if you turn the key to exactly the right position so that when you poke the wire down alongside the lock, it releases the spring-loaded latch that holds the lock in.
In PRACTICE, very few of us have been successful in getting out our locks once they were 10+ years old. After you buy a new lock and housing, you will find that a new lock comes out easily, but even after practicing on the new one, you still won't be able to get the old one apart. Search the forum. This topic has been discussed. once fairly recently. |
bit late to the party ...but if anyone else is looking for the answer ...
Google "bmw ignition lock" ... there is a utube vid that shows the fix |
Mine does this also
96 328IC 89K miles.
The key spins around sometimes but will then conect on the next revolution and start up. What are the problems with the new ignition lock and the chip in the key? |
