Air Conditioning keeps blowing fuse!
I recently had the A/C on my 98 318ti serviced, the repair shop recharged the system and it worked great for about a month and the all of a sudden the A/C stops blowing cool air. I check the fuse to find its been burned straight through. I replaced the fuse, turn on the A/C and with in seconds the fuse blows again. What's the deal? Why would it run well for a month then start blowing fuses like crazy?

Need to clarify some more.
Which fuse is blowing? What fuse number? |
The 318i Bentley manual has it listed as fuse # 39 which is a 7.5a fuse.
|
Fuse # 39 supplies the A/C compressor magnetic clutch.
Check the wire to the compressor clutch just to make sure it did not come unplugged and is not touching ground. If wire is good, it could be the compressor clutch is going. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1254184244.jpg |
Can you get your hands on a amp meter? One of the clamp around kinds?
If you can, I can tell you how to diagnose the problem by eliminating each component until you find the one that is pulling excessive amps. Are you sure all they did is add refrigerant? |
