help for broken door hinge

OK guys, bear with me. I'm a BMW newbie visiting from the Porsche boards. I just picked up an 87 325 with a broken driver's door hinge pin. I ordered a repair kit, but I don't see how it can fit. The flange on the replacement pin (next to the arrow) is too large to fit into the hinge. Has anyone done this before? How does this work?

It should fit if you got the correct part.

You should be able to get a good idea on how things fit after you remove the broken pin out of the hinge.

You're right, once it comes apart, you can see how the pin fits. It sure wasn't obvious from the outside. Thanks a lot.
