1989 325i Oil Leak

I just picked up an 89 325i. The previous owner replaced the automatic trans with a 5 speed manual. I changed the oil and trans fluid the other day and noticed its leaking oil from the drain hole between the trans bell housing and the motor. I am new to these cars but my first guess is a rear crank seal of sorts. Some clarrification would be great. Also it seem to drip only after driving and forms a relitively small puddle about 2" diameter over night and is no longer dripping in the morning.

If it's oil com-ming out at the bottom as described, it is most likely the rear crank seal. Could be a bad seal or one that is compromised from the conversion...

Check how much you lose to how much you add. Sometimes oil can eventually get on the clutch disk and force some work. Obviously, if you need to do the clutch you will replace the seal.

Thats what I figured. Its not leakin much but it appears it might be leaking from the passenger side rear part of the sump pan and possibly getting behind the bell housing cover. either way does doing the rear main seal mean dropping the tranny? Or can it be accessed by dropping the sump pan.
