Question Gas smell with full tank

So, after changing the fuel pump on my 91 325i coupe, I figured that with the new seal in place the fuel smell would be gone.

However, when I went to fill up with gas, I kept the access panel open to see what was going on. Once I filled up, I noticed the strong fuel smell right away. I looked and realized that gas was spilling out from the hose that is very close to the fuel pump, at the top of the tank. Looks like some sort of breather maybe?

And yes the seal on the drivers side of the tank is good too.

So, I know that is the culprit. Now, I can't seem to find the part with any certainty on Pelican's parts catalog. Any help?

^^^This is the only one I can find that looks like it might work, but it looks too small/short for what I think needs to be done.

So, if you could please help me figure out how to order this hose. I am going on a 800 mile road trip next week and would like to be able to fill my tank.

Also, if anyone has experience with this hose, please feel free. I am wondering how involved it will be to change it... i.e. dropping the gas tank. If it is that difficult then I will just try to put a band-aid on it and rig up some sort of repair.

Thank you for your time.

I don't have a visual reference since I don't have your model...please post a pic.

Some models have two hoses that come out of the top of the tank. Inside the hose is a plastic tube, these can crack and allow fuel and vapors out...

I am not sure what hose you are referring to since you posted a PP filler neck hose and you are not describing that hose...

I've done my fuel pump on a similar model, but I'm not sure what you're referring to without a picture.

From my memory, there should only be two hoses viewable from both access panels. One is the output to the fuel system and one is the input for the vapor system recovery. The entire route of those hoses are standard 7MM ID 12MM OD fuel lines.

In my instance there is one hose on each. The second portion of my fuel tank that just has a fuel sender is the side the recovery goes to.

Thumbs up

Here is a picture...

It's the wet, braided looking hose at the top, 11 o'clock.

Ok, after looking at my pic and looking some more, it looks like this one...

Yes? No? Maybe?

If it is, how hard would that be to change?

Also wondering if that stock clamp could be bad also.

Thanks again for the help.

If you removed that stock clamp and put it back on, it should probably be changed with a good quality standard hose clamp.

Replace the clamp with one designated "fuel injection clamp" for the diameter hose that you have. I would go ahead and replace all of the fuel hoses and clamps, they are past due at 20 years.
