PS pump slicing Coolant lines
I'm on my second coolant hose now and my PS pump pulley keeps gouging holes in the side of it.
IT didn't happen at all until maybe a week ago but since it has done it 2 times in as many days. I'm wondering did my PS pump move ALOT or something? On the first replacement i noticed how close the pump was and i did all the finageling i could to get the pump further away without losing too much belt tension maybe there is some other direction i can move the thing (down instead of towards the wheel or something) with the car off there is about .015" gap between the pulley and the hose...I tried lifting the radiator/moving it a bit to the side and it feed up some space but i'm assuming it went back into it's resting position.. IS this an issue with my PS pump or my radiator supports or wha? any input is greatly appreciated. |

I'm guessing no one has any insight on this issue?
Should i just get new radiator supports or what? anything?

Wow,
I believe you may have some room for the hose you could manuver..try and back off the hose from the radiator a little. From the pic it look like it is on the radiator with extra space. Is the belt on the pulley the proper one? It may be to wide; though it is hard to tell from here. Has any configuration or work been done prior to this hose'ing your getting? Jon

the belt has worked for 6-8 months with no problem what so ever. When I got under the car the tension was just fine, no slipping what so ever. The tension star bolt is in a good position. I went under and loosened the ps pump and tried moving it lower or in any direction away from the belt, but the result is tremendous slack on said belt. I've tried backing off the hose as much as I can and tried using the frame mounted hook to pull it away from the ps pump. The only thing that temporarily worked was lifting the driver side of the radiator and tightening the support.. But because it wasn't in a resting position at the bottom of the support I'm assuming it slid back down and made contact.
Fooey.

Problem Solved so to speak
Well after a full on engine bay gutting i believe i have found the problem.
![]() ^what was happening as a result of what i HOPE is ![]() ![]() Not only was this bracket on backwards (teeth facing the cabin and the star-bolt towards the nose) The star bolt was on reversed as well (groves facing nose instead of towards bracket) I'm assuming this caused it to not tension on it's INTENDED path thus causing it to over the mileage shimmy shake it's way over into the coolant hose. but now that it's all apart i'm doing a full PS flush and clean and degreasing the bay removing the compressor/condenser and bracketing along with doing some hackwork on the core support. thanks all
