Oil light will not go off?
Hi, I have a 1986 bmw 325, I am on a big budget after 6 failed back surgerys, $647.00 doesn't go far. I was told to stick the key in and go to the second position just before it would start. Then since I have a 15 hole pacman, not a 19, to stick one end of a paperclip in hole 7 then the other in hole 1, wait 5 to 8 seconds and pull the paperclip out and no more light! IT DID NOT WORK! Tried this for about 8 times, still the little annoying oil can still is lit up! Does anyone have any suggestions? Willing to try anything! Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks, Darin |

From your discription, your problem has nothing to do with your solution. A light on your dash that looks like an oil can indicates low oil level, or low oil pressure, but it sounds like you are trying to reset your service indicator lights.
They have nothing to do with each other. The service indicator light tells you it it's time to change the oil, the light that looks like an oil can is telling you that you may not need to waste your money on new oil because it is too late. The oil can is a result of ether a bad sensor giving wrong information, or a good sensor giving very bad news. in any case the light will not go away with a paper clip, or at least it would not be in your best intrest to do so.
