Performance intake, now chip?

I just added the performance intake heat shield/cone filter from Signature Motoring for about $150 and an hour's install work. If anyone is considering this, I highly recommend it. Aside from the power gain which is most noticeable open bore, the induction sound is out of this world at higher RPM, but sounds pretty much stock at low to mid engine speeds.

I've been looking into performance chips. Anyone have any recommendations? Many people have said that those $35 chips on ebay are exact software copies of $250 name-brand chips. True? Anyone dealt with a particular seller they can vouch for? By installing a bad chip, is it possibly to fry the ECU or something?
