318 starter (threaded / non threaded)

Need to do a starter on my 95 318ti.
Our host lists a threaded and non threaded flange ..
I really would rather have the replacement starter in hand when I start.

Any way I can tell before I do the removal ?

I'm sure the guys here will have a better answer than this, but when I replaced my starter this is how I decided which one to order.

1. Go to RealOEM.com
2. Enter last seven of your VIN, so that the search is specific to your cars manufacture date.
3. Then, search for the threaded or non-threaded part numbers.

In my case, I searched for the starter without threaded mounting holes and noticed it was listed for my car "E36 328i Sedan, M52, MANUAL (CD33)."

Then, just for measure, I searched for the starter with threaded mounting holes, and my vehicle wasn't anywhere on that list.

When I got the starter out, sure enough, I had the right one.

will do the "real oem" search.

Thank you
