Rear wheel bearing
I am contemplating replacing a rear wheel bearing on my 1996 318 E36. I have heard that the job can't be done without the special tool to get the drive shaft through the new bearing, otherwise one runs the risk of wrecking the bearing. Is this the case or is there a technique that can be used?
What does the 'special tool' look like? Thanks |

I cannot speak to assembly. I presumed that I could do it with my hydraulic press.
However, getting it apart is no small feat. I used a tank of propane and broke two wheel pullers before I gave up and took it to a shop where they used a hydraulic puller. |
