'87 325 clutch issues
I was coming home the other night when all of a sudden I no longer had any power transfer. I would be in gear but would get a slight shudder and then over rev because I wasn't moving. Thinking it could be the slave I went ahead and replaced that. It didn't make a difference now I can be in any gear sitting in the garage not moving i checked the linkage and it seems to be in order as well. Any idea on what could have happen will I be needing a new clutch. A rebuilt transmission was put in a bout 5 years ago. Also there was some black fibrous material on the slave cylinder piston arm is that clutch material that's gone?

Sounds like the motor is not transferring power to tranny as you believe...clutch is not engaging.
Over the time you have had the car...has the point in the clutch pedal travel, where it engages, changed to the point that no transfer of power occurs? While in garage, put it in 4th gear and try and start the car with foot on brake..does the car move as it tries to start? if it doesn't move then the clutch is not in contact with flywheel...most likely need a new clutch. No the pedal had always seemed firm. and the pedal engaged pretty high. It seems as though it lost all its feel in just one shift it was on a drive home less than 5 miles and just seemed to give out.

pretty high up engagement most likely indicates mostly worn out disk...it could have been on its last shift and degraded.
How many miles on clutch?
