Hi, I'm about to do this to my 325i. I've noticed you didn't need the orange wire from the wiring harness. Does the new unit illuminate without it? Also, did you connect the grounding wire to anything at all? Thanks a bunch, I think the installation will go smoothly

Yes, the new unit didn't need a backlight signal from the car, as it was illuminated well all the time, in day and night.
