Clutch job cost

Can anybody tell me what I should expect to pay an independent mechanic to replace the clutch in my 87 325?

I would say give or take $500.

I have had to pay for two clutch replacements through the years that I could not do myself for one reason or another. I paid about $900 each time.

This assumes that your flywheel is in good shape.

Consider getting a new rear main seal at the same time. I did a clutch job once at 175k miles and didn't do the rear main because it was nice and dry. 50k miles later the rear main started leaking. I felt pretty dumb.

Its not that hard to do a clutch change on these cars.......as long as you can get to the top gearbox to engine bolts (better with an assistant) its a case of systematically removing the prop shaft, all the bolts aroudn the bell housing, the gear stick linkage and connections etc.......and supporting the gerabox whilst you remove the rear mounts......then slide it off and down......

Good time to renew all the cheap bushes and links on the transmission

The rubber Guido thing

Transmission mounts

Transmission oil

Check the starter motor

Main seal is a good plan to check, but not easy to change
